Brighton have completed the deadline-night signing of highly rated Spanish midfielder Chema Andres from VfB Stuttgart on a five-year deal worth £15.5million.

Sporting director Mike Cave said the club were delighted to bring him in, citing his Real Madrid pedigree, a very good season with Stuttgart last term, and the fact Albion had tracked his potential for some time, adding they look forward to working with him.

The Spain under-21 player, from Valencia, started at Levante before moving to Real Madrid's academy, coming through to first-team level in the capital.

He spent last season in the Bundesliga. His arrival appears to fill a clear gap in Albion's squad after the summer departures of James Milner and Carlos Baleba.

Albion raced against the clock to get the deal over the line.
