Brighton and Hove Albion have lodged a bid worth more than €20m for VfB Stuttgart midfielder Chema Andrés, Kicker reports, leaving the club with a deadline-day decision.

It is unclear whether Stuttgart will entertain the proposal so late in the window. Any sale would deliver an extraordinary return on a player signed from Real Madrid for about €3m last summer, with Madrid retaining a buyback and a 50 percent resale clause.

Andrés became a regular in his first season, scoring his first Bundesliga goal against Borussia Mönchengladbach and earning starts ahead of captain Atakan Karazor. He made 39 competitive appearances across all competitions.

Over the past 11 months his estimated value has doubled from €10m to €20m, making the timing awkward for VfB. He has not started either of Stuttgart’s competitive fixtures this year, coming off the bench in both the Pokal and the Bundesliga.

Pre-season saw Sebastian Hoeneß use him across multiple roles, from the deepest midfielder to dropping into central defence and pushing higher up. That versatility sits alongside Angelo Stiller as the playmaker, Grischa Prömel as the runner and Karazor as the defensive stabiliser.

Brighton are testing how highly Stuttgart value that flexibility. With the window closing, VfB must weigh a sizeable profit against losing a rapidly developed midfielder with little time to recruit a replacement.
