Brighton & Hove Albion are pursuing a late deal to sign Stuttgart defensive midfielder Chema Andres, with talks progressing ahead of the 11pm BST deadline. According to NY Times, the move is not yet agreed.
The 21-year-old joined Stuttgart from Real Madrid last summer for c5m, with Madrid retaining a right of first refusal and a 50 percent sell-on clause.
Chema has played 26 Bundesliga matches, scoring three goals and supplying one assist. He also featured nine times in last seasons run to the Europa League last 16.
Brightons push comes as Mats Wieffer sustained an injury in Sundays 4-3 defeat at Chelsea. Signed from Feyenoord in 2024 as a holding midfielder, he was used at right-back last season under head coach Fabian Hurzeler.
Wieffer is among the options to revert to midfield following Carlos Balebas recent move to Manchester United. The No 6 role remains the unresolved position at the end of a busy window.
Hurzeler typically fields two central midfielders, with Pascal Gross partnered by Yasin Ayari in Balebas absence. Ayari, out of contract next summer, missed the Chelsea loss with an ankle issue, so centre-back Olivier Boscagli started as the No 6 behind Gross and Malick Yalcouye, who scored and impressed on his full Premier League debut.
