Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has been handed a major boost following the club’s big transfer decision that involves him.

United in need of reinforcements

During the summer transfer window, United focused their efforts on bolstering the attacking department after a goal-shy 2024/25 campaign in which they finished a lowly 15th place and lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.

United forked out north of £200m on the acquisitions of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brentford and RB Leipzig respectively. United also brought in Senne Lammens on deadline day from Royal Antwerp.

Come January and next summer, priority will shift elsewhere, with the midfield and wing-back areas in particular crying out for urgent reinforcement.

According to The Sun’s Samuel Luckhurst, United are prepared to spend big once again in an effort to back Amorim.

United are planning another overhaul of the squad to ensure that Amorim has the tools necessary to make the club a competitive outfit once again.

Good news for Amorim

Luckhurst writes, “Manchester United are prepared to back Ruben Amorim with another clear-out to fund the next phase of their squad rebuild.”

“United plan to overhaul their midfield next year and could part-finance their incomings with significant departures and sales.”

In addition to midfield, the report notes that a new goalkeeper and a wide player are also under consideration. However, this is likely to depend on the futures of Harry Amass and Radek Vitek. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are eager to promote the pair to the first team amidst their impressive loan spells in the Championship.

Harry Maguire and Casemiro are both in the final year of their respective contracts. There have been suggestions that United are willing to keep them, but only if they accept significantly reduced wages. Their departures would free up a huge chunk of United’s wage bill.

Jadon Sancho is another whose time at United has come to an end. Currently on an uninspiring loan at Aston Villa, United are likely to cut their losses and let him leave as a free agent rather than trigger the one-year extension clause on his terms in the hope that they can get a fee for him.

Luckhurst explains that Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, Joshua Zirkzee and Altay Bayindir are also facing uncertain futures at United.

It’s understood that Fernandes has an agreement with United allowing him to depart for an overseas club for £57m next summer, should he choose to end his time at Old Trafford.

For Amorim, the biggest positive is that the club appear to be planning with him in mind despite the fact results are still not convincing.
