Joshua Zirkzee has reportedly said ‘yes’ to a move to AS Roma in the January transfer window.

The forward has been linked with a move away ever since it became clear he would not be playing a prominent role under Ruben Amorim this season; it took three months for him to make his first start (against Everton on Monday), and he was only given the nod due to Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha being sidelined.

Zirkzee hasn’t been short of interest in the build-up to the window opening, either, as he’s earned suitors in the Premier League, such as the Toffees and West Ham, as well as over in Italy, where he spent two seasons with Bologna prior to his £36.5 million United transfer.

Alas, it seems as though he’s favouring a new venture abroad, away from the pressures of the English top flight.

According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 24-year-old has green-lit a loan move to Roma in two months’ time.

Roma have sent a formal offer United’s way, which is believed to be a loan with an option to buy. The option would, however, turn into an obligation in the event that the club qualify for the Champions League next year.

Would United allow Zirkzee to leave mid-season?

The report adds that, as things stand, United’s stance is undetermined.

Amorim has previously maintained that no players would be offloaded in January due to the absences he’ll have to navigate when AFCON kicks off, but there will likely be recognition amongst the board that a temporary spell out of the spotlight could do wonders for Zirkzee’s confidence and form.
