Lazio have opened talks over a new contract for Danilo Cataldi, whose deal runs until 2027.
Il Messaggero reports that an initial meeting with his agent Giuseppe Riso has already taken place in recent days.
Both parties are keen to reach an agreement without difficulty, and Cataldi wants to continue his Lazio journey at Formello, with no rush to finalise terms.
The plan is to bind him even closer to the club in what could become a deal that carries him through to the end of his playing days.
A boyhood Lazio player, he is recovering from groin surgery and will return gradually on a tailored programme at the start of pre-season.
Cataldi is expected to be a cornerstone of Gennaro Gattuso’s side after the pair spoke ahead of the new campaign, and the former Italy boss views him as central to how Lazio will play.
