The sale of Cenk Özkacar to Trabzonspor will be made official in the coming hours. The left-footed centre-back, who had two years remaining at Mestalla, pivoted from advanced talks with Schalke 04 to accept the Turkish club’s offer.
According to Superdeporte, Trabzonspor have tabled a permanent deal worth around 1.7 million euros, rather than a loan with option, far below the 5.5 million Valencia paid Lyon across the summers of 2022 and 2023.
Özkacar, 25, departs permanently after a difficult spell and two frustrated loans to Valladolid and Cologne. Despite playing 25 Bundesliga matches, Cologne declined to trigger a 2 million euros purchase clause a few months ago.
He landed in Türkiye this afternoon and is en route to Trabzon. The move is expected to be announced tonight or tomorrow at the latest. The initial agreement is understood to cover at least the next three seasons.
Özkacar’s target now is to rediscover the form that took him to Lyon, Valencia and the Türkiye national team. A return to the Turkish league is seen as the best route back, a competition growing in profile with high‑profile deals such as Mason Greenwood joining Fenerbahçe for more than 40 million euros.
