Charlton Athletic have been told to demand at least £10m for Tyreece Campbell after his excellent start to the season.
Charlton Athletic have enjoyed a positive start to the season, with Tyreece Campbell having been key to their early success.
Many observers expected the Addicks to be battling to stay up, but, whilst it’s very early days, they are currently one point and one place outside the play-offs, even if they haven’t won in five.
That recent form will be a concern, but there’s no denying that Charlton have done well in the opening eight games, so Nathan Jones will take encouragement from how the team have played.

Of course, it has been a team effort to put Charlton in this position, but Campbell has been excellent, scoring four goals in eight games, which means he has already beaten his total from the previous campaign.
As well as scoring goals, Campbell has been a constant threat for the Londoners with his pace and ability to stretch the game, and that counter-attacking threat was particularly on show in the eye-catching win at West Ham.
It could have been very different for Campbell and Charlton, as Preston were looking to sign the 23-year-old in the summer, with talk at the time suggesting a deal could go through for around £2m.
Clearly, it will be a major relief for Charlton that the potential move to Deepdale didn’t happen, as it’s fair to say that Campbell’s value has risen considerably given his form this season.
And, when asked by FLW about what sort of price tag the club must put on their star winger, Charlton fan pundit Chris Woodward explained that the Jamaica international should command an ‘eight-figure’ sum.
“If I work on the assumption that this is Campbell’s consistent level and not a purple patch, I think we’re looking at least an eight-figure sum.
“When you look at the figures of other Championship wingers, like Andre Brooks, Nestory Irankunda etc. I don’t think it’s an unrealistic price tag.
“There’s a possibility that we could get relegated without Campbell, which is worth at least £10m in TV revenue on its own.
“He has been our biggest attacking threat since we returned to the Championship, and he has fixed the biggest problem he had in his game from last season, which was his end product. His pace, dribbling and work ethic is arguably up there with any winger at this level.
“Campbell is only 23, and this is the first time in four years that he has played consistently in his natural left wing position. He still has massive potential to improve, and especially in a side that doesn't play defensive football and where he can share the workload - unlike at Charlton.
“You can also view it that he is the top scoring winger in the league at a side which currently hinders him.
“He is a fantastic player, and I can’t see us entertaining anything less than £10m for him, especially with four years left on his contract.”
It’s not something that Charlton fans will want to discuss, but the reality is that Campbell’s form won’t have gone unnoticed, and, if he carries on in this manner, there will be interest in the player in January.
We know that the Addicks aren’t the biggest spenders in the league, so player trading will be crucial if they are to kick-on in the years to come, so selling at a high price is crucial.
Right now, most would agree that Campbell has to be worth £10m, because he is performing as one of the best wingers in the league.
Obviously, the challenge for the academy graduate is to show this form over a lengthy period, as he hasn’t done that yet in his short career so far.
But, even if the goals dry up, Campbell is still bringing so much to the team with his pace and the way he plays, so he does look capable of playing at a higher level.
Ultimately, though, Campbell will only be concentrating on Charlton now, but it will be interesting to see how January plays out if he continues to make his mark in the Championship.
