According to The Telegraph, Chelsea lead the race for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, who Southampton released at 13, and he has previously been the subject of an alleged £60m bid, with Liverpool and Arsenal also interested.

Southampton have seen academy products depart for significant sums in recent years, with Tyler Dibling leaving last summer for £50m.

Scott first joined Southampton on trial aged eight, staying until 13 before being picked up by Bournemouth. At 16 he left Bournemouth, earning his senior chance at Bristol City in 2021.

He later returned to Bournemouth and has produced 14 goal contributions in 93 appearances, including eight in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old recently made his first senior England appearance, coming on against Czech Republic in the Nations League. His rise has underlined the scale of his progress since leaving Southampton.
