Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano was close to joining Chivas before he made his move to Europe, according to a former general manager of the Flock.
José Luis Higuera, who left the Guadalajara outfit last summer, was speaking on an Instagram live session about his time with the club.
“We were close to Chucky Lozano. We were close to convincing Chucho and bringing Chucky,” Higuera said.
The winger was on the books at Pachuca in 2017, the club he had come up through the ranks at.
Despite the interest from Chivas at that time, the Mexico international would go on to join Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
After spending two seasons in the Eredivisie, Napoli came calling last August.
The massive €42m move to Serie A represents the record amount the Naples side has ever paid for a player, and also made Lozano the most expensive Mexican player in history.
