The derby at the Ciutat de València ended in refereeing controversy over Umar Sadiq’s goal, then a late row sparked by Eray Cömert’s celebration.
According to Superdeporte, the Valencia centre-back yanked out a corner flag after full-time, draped his shirt over it and waved it in plain view, igniting tempers around the ground.
Levante players and supporters remonstrated, and members of the home coaching staff moved to retrieve the flag and confront the defender over his actions.
Manu Sánchez, visibly angry, felt the celebration was excessive, noting Levante are in a difficult moment and that such displays at an opponent’s stadium could be avoided. Dela also voiced frustration, calling it a highly charged derby, referencing the usual offenders and offering congratulations to Valencia.
Valencia head coach Carlos Corberán and vice-captain César Tárrega apologised on behalf of the club after the final whistle. Corberán said he had been heading towards the dressing rooms and had not seen the incident clearly, adding that there is a lot of tension in these fixtures and they did not want it to be taken as disrespect.
