A bottle was thrown at Eray Cömert as he left the pitch after a fiery derby at Levante UD, following a provocative celebration with a stadium pennant. According to Superdeporte, he raised the pennant and draped his shirt over it to celebrate the win.

The gesture angered home supporters and Levante players, and Valencia CF staff and his team-mates moved in to get him to stop.

As Cömert departed amid insults, one of three or four bottles thrown from the Tribuna area by several Levante supporters struck the lower part of his face. He was not hurt.

None of the post-derby incidents were recorded by referee Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias in the match report for Levante against Valencia, matchday 24 of La Liga.

Dela, one of Levante’s captains, viewed Cömert’s act as disrespectful and, in the heat of the moment, described Valencia’s celebrations as unacceptable. Later, César Tárrega and Carlos Corberán apologised for the Swiss defender’s pennant gesture. Tárrega, from Aldaia and a Levante academy graduate, said they apologised if it caused offence and wished Levante well.
