Coach reflects on Corinthians women's basketball team reaching the final

Last Monday (24), the Corinthians women's basketball team advanced to the final of the Paulista Championship after defeating Santo André by 94 x 60 at Ginásio Wlamir Marques. The victory secured the black-and-white team a spot to compete for the state title. After qualifying, coach Bruno Guidorizzi analyzed the team's current moment and spoke about his first final in charge of the Furiosas.

In an interview given to the portal Meninas do Timão, Bruno began by highlighting the importance of the project and his satisfaction with the work developed since his arrival at Parque São Jorge.

“First, I am very happy. I was talking to Marco Polo, who is our director of land sports, about how pleasurable it has been to be here at Corinthians and to be able to give new meaning to the opportunity they gave me, to bring a big project to Corinthians. Corinthians invested well, so this is a way to give back for what the club has done,” said the coach.

According to Bruno, the evolution of the squad throughout the competitions has been fundamental to the team's campaign this season.

“We started the project in the middle of last year aiming for this year; it didn’t go the way we wanted in the LBF, but in every project, we make adjustments, we see what’s happening. The arrival of important players, like Thayná, for example, Jaque and Glenda, was very good for the group and added a lot.”

“So, the group comes out stronger, and we are able to give back everything that Corinthians is offering us and honor the greatness of the club. This feeling of being able to return what they have given us is indescribable,” he added.

The coach also commented on the preparation for the semifinals, which Corinthians won by wide margins, 78 x 58 in the first game and 94 x 60 in the decisive match.

“This group, even though they didn’t all arrive through Corinthians, has a lot of experienced players who have already played in finals, and it’s a group that wants it a lot. Day by day, in training, they’re not satisfied with second place; they want to win, they talk about it every day, they’re training focused on that,” he stated.

He also highlighted the team's attitude regarding the plan to face Santo André. “So, we knew that to face Santo André, we had a game plan. I feel that this is a group that wants it, that is focused, that hasn’t swallowed the LBF and came wanting to redeem themselves in the Paulista, to show their value and the greatness of the club. So, they want it a lot. Now, we wait for the result to see, tactically, what we are going to do. But the group’s commitment has been incredible from the very first moment,” he concluded.

Finally, the coach spoke about the match that took place last Monday, behind closed doors, due to a club council meeting to vote on the reform of the Statute, which ended up being suspended. Even without fans in the gym, Bruno emphasized respect for the club’s guidelines.

“We try to isolate the factors we can’t control. Of course, having the Fiel with us is amazing. But we know the club looked after everyone’s well-being, to prioritize the game, understanding that it’s an important moment for the club. So, there is the utmost respect so that the people in the meeting deciding the future of Corinthians can make decisions as calmly as possible.“

“And then, we came here and did our part. Whether the fans are present or not, we know that even if they’re not on the court, they were watching on Corinthians TV, so we returned the support that way,” he finished.

Corinthians will face Sesi Araraquara in the state final. The opponent secured their spot by defeating Unimed 2 x 0 in the semifinal. The Paulista Basketball Federation will still define the dates, times, and locations of the decisive games, which will be played in a best-of-five series.

Despite qualifying for the final, the club announced the closure of all basketball modalities at Corinthians. The current management decided to discontinue the department for financial reasons.
