FC Barcelona have officially confirmed that Patricio Pacifico will remain at Barça Atlètic until the end of the 2026/27 season after reaching an agreement with Defensor Sporting over a fresh loan deal.
The latest Barcelona news sees the Catalan club continue to back one of their promising young defenders despite his long-term injury setback.
The Blaugrana confirms that the Patricio Pacifico loan extension also keeps the purchase option agreed in the original deal intact.
That means Barcelona will still have the opportunity to sign the Uruguayan defender permanently once the loan comes to an end.
The decision arrives at a time when Barcelona are planning the future of several young players, and Pacifico remains in those plans despite spending recent months on the sidelines.
Barcelona confirm Patricio Pacifico loan extension after the defender impressed during his short spell with the reserve side earlier this year.
The Barcelona youngster made seven appearances for Barça Atlètic, starting every match before suffering a serious knee injury.
The 20-year-old ruptured the cruciate ligament in his left knee, bringing his first season in Spain to an abrupt end.
Since then, he has undergone surgery in Barcelona and continues his recovery under the supervision of the club’s Medical Services.
Announcing the agreement, the club said,
“FC Barcelona and Defensor Sporting Club have reached an agreement to extend the loan of Patricio Pacifico for another season, until the end of the 2026/27 season.”
The agreement also means Barcelona maintain the purchase option for Patricio Pacifico, giving the club flexibility to complete a permanent transfer once he has fully recovered and returned to competitive football.
The Patricio Pacifico injury update is still centred on rehabilitation, but Barcelona’s latest move makes it clear that the club have no intention of rushing into a decision on his future.
Instead, they have chosen continuity by ensuring the defender remains in Catalonia for another campaign.
For anyone following Barcelona official news, this is another example of the club investing in talented young players even when injuries interrupt their development.
