Conor Townsend is undergoing a medical at West Brom ahead of a return to The Hawthorns, and is poised to sign a one-year deal on a free transfer, according to ExpressAndStar.com.
The left-back departed in 2024 after six years at the club, having made more than 200 appearances.
He joined Ipswich Town for £750,000 and made 10 appearances across two seasons, the first in the Premier League. A pre-season ACL injury disrupted last term and he was released this summer after their top-flight return.
Townsend is well known to head coach James Morrison, who coached for most of his earlier spell. The pair were briefly team-mates on his arrival in 2018.
Albion believe he will add experience and knowhow to a squad refreshed by younger signings in recent windows. He turns 34 this season and fits their search for left-back cover.
Callum Styles was the double player of the season last term and missed one league fixture, but there is currently no senior cover at left-back. Charlie Taylor filled in on loan from Southampton last season.
If completed, Townsend would become the Baggies’ fifth summer addition after forwards Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Barney Stewart, defender Carter Pinnington and goalkeeper Matt Ingram.
