Corinthians falter in the final quarter and lose to Pinheiros in the NBB

Corinthians was defeated by Pinheiros on Sunday morning in a match valid for the 17th round of the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). Playing at the Henrique Villaboim Gymnasium, Timão had a good start but couldn't maintain the performance throughout the game and ended up losing 109 to 80 to the competition leader. The match started at 11 a.m.

The first half of the game was marked by balance. The home team took the lead in the initial quarter and opened up a gap on the scoreboard, but the scenario changed in the following period. After defensive adjustments made by coach Jece Leite, Corinthians managed to react, started to better control the actions at certain moments, and narrowed the gap. Still, Pinheiros went into halftime leading 50 to 48.

Upon returning from halftime, Corinthians' performance dropped considerably. The third quarter was decisive, with Pinheiros quickly extending their lead and opening up a 20-point gap. In the last period, Alvinegro even hinted at a comeback, but couldn't regain control of the match, allowing the opponent to secure the victory with a wide margin.

Despite the negative result, Corinthians remains in sixth place on the NBB table, with 11 wins and five losses so far.

The off-court scenario also draws attention. The current season, which extends until the middle of next year, could mark the end of this squad at the club. President Osmar Stabile has already stated that he intends to reduce investments in the terrestrial associative modalities of Parque São Jorge. In women's basketball, the athletes have already been released. The continuation of men's basketball will depend on securing specific sponsors.

Timão returns to the court next Tuesday, the 23rd, when they face Paulistano for the 17th round of the NBB. The match takes place at the Antônio Prado Júnior Gymnasium, the opponent's home, starting at 7:30 p.m.
