Corinthians fined by STJD over hostility to child who received Neymar’s shirt | OneFootball

Corinthians have been punished by the Supremo Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva for three offences from Sunday’s 25th-round match against Santos, incurring fines totalling R$ 20.5 thousand. According to Meu Timao, the ruling was delivered on Wednesday morning.

The main sanction relates to hostile behaviour and verbal abuse from home supporters towards an eight-year-old boy who had been gifted Neymar’s match shirt. The child and his family were escorted from Neo Química Arena by security staff and military police. The club was charged under article 213, section I of the CBJD for failing to prevent disorder and pitch invasions.

Club lawyer Sérgio Engelberg sought to have the charge thrown out, arguing it had been misclassified and that no disorder occurred. He also said Corinthians helped remove the family and invited them to visit CT Dr. Joaquim Grava and attend the next match.

The vote was close, with session president Dr Mateus Vilela casting the deciding vote to convict, setting a R$ 10 thousand fine for that count.

Corinthians were also fined R$ 7.5 thousand under article 191, section III after 67 children took part in the pre-match entrance, above the 22 permitted. The defence said it was a special moment that did not disrupt the protocol, but the auditors ruled the regulation had been breached.

A further R$ 3 thousand penalty was issued under article 206 for returning three minutes late after half-time. Santos received the same sanction. The defence requested the publication of an acórdão at the end of the session.
