Corinthians held by Juventude at Neo Química in Brasileirão farewell

On the afternoon of this Sunday (7), Corinthians returned to the field for the Brazilian Championship. In a match valid for the 38th and final round of the competition, the Alvinegro hosted Juventude at the Neo Química Arena and ended with a 1-1 draw, with a goal scored by José Martínez.

With this result, the Alvinegro reached 47 points, finishing the championship in only 13th place. With this position, the team secured only a spot in the group stage of the 2026 Copa Sudamericana. The only chance for Timão to compete in next year's Copa Libertadores is by winning the Copa do Brasil, where they will play in the semifinals.

Next commitment

After concluding their participation in the Brazilian Championship against Juventude, Corinthians focuses all their attention on the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil. Next Wednesday (10), the Alvinegro will visit Cruzeiro at 9:30 PM (Brasília time) at the Mineirão Stadium for the first leg of the national knockout tournament.

Corinthians' lineup and absences

Timão had two absences for the match: midfielder Rodrigo Garro (muscle strain in the right calf soleus), and forward Yuri Alberto (edema in the pubic symphysis and overload of the left leg adductor muscle).

Given this, coach Dorival Júnior chose the following team to start the match: Kauê; Félix Torres, João Pedro Tchoca, and Angileri; José Martínez, André Carrillo, Charles, and Hugo; Talles Magno, Romero, and Kayke.

The bench options were: Felipe Longo, Matheuzinho, Memphis, Raniele, Matheus Bidu, Cacá, Vitinho, Ryan, Gui Amorim, André, Gui Negão, and Dieguinho.

Juventude's lineup

Coach Thiago Carpini fielded a team with: Jandrei; Igor Formiga, Rodrigo Sam, Bernardo, Marcelo Hermes, Caíque, Daniel Peixoto, Jadson, Mandaca, Nenê, and Gabriel Taliari.

Refereeing

The referee was Felipe Fernandes de Lima (MG), assisted by Fernanda Nandrea Gomes Antunes (MG) and Brigida Cirilo Ferreira (AL). The fourth official and VAR were Gustavo Ervino Bauermann (SC) and Gilberto Rodrigues Castro Júnior (PE), respectively.

First half

The first attack came from the visiting team. At six minutes, Félix Torres lost the ball in the defensive field, near the penalty area. Marcelo Hermes took the ball to the end line, crossed low, and Gabriel Taliari almost opened the scoring. João Pedro Tchoca cleared the ball on the goal line.

At eight minutes, Hugo received on the left wing, crossed to the edge of the small area, and Kayke arrived sliding to finish towards the goal. Before him, Luan Freitas cleared the danger.

At 18 minutes, Talles Magno received a pass in the penalty area, behind Juventude's defense. He shot with his right foot, and Jandrei made the save. Subsequently, Romero attempted a shot on the rebound but kicked it straight out.

Corinthians' goal: at 22 minutes, Kayke made a beautiful play on the left wing, beat the defense, raised his head, and passed backward. Perfectly for Martínez, who first-timed it with his right foot, hitting a beautiful shot into the right corner, leaving Jandrei with no chance.

At 31 minutes, Igor Formiga crossed, but the ball went towards the goal. Kauê, with a hand switch, palmed the ball to the end line. At 34, after a free-kick, Mandaca rose higher than the defense, headed down, the ball deflected, and went to the right of Corinthians' goal.

At 43 minutes, Talles Magno sprinted down the right wing, exchanged passes with Romero, and received it in the penalty area. He beat the defense, finished with a chip over Jandrei. The goalkeeper seemed beaten in the play but recovered and palmed it before the ball crossed the line.

There was no time for more, and Corinthians went into the break leading 1-0.

Second half

Just three minutes in, Igor Formiga tangled with the ball and lost it to Talles Magno. The forward advanced alone, entered the area, and attempted a shot but sent it wide, wasting a great chance to extend the lead.

At seven minutes, after a cross into Corinthians' area, Igor Formiga managed to touch it to the middle, in the small area. Gabriel Taliari, sliding, arrived to finish but missed the direction.

At eight minutes, Raniele exchanged passes with Kayke, sprinted to the attacking field, and entered the penalty area. He attempted a right-footed shot, but without power, easy for Jandrei to save. At ten, Igor Formiga took a free-kick near the area, but Kauê made the save without much difficulty.

At 12 minutes, Kayke made a beautiful play on the right wing, beat the defense, and crossed perfectly for Hugo. The number 46 rose, headed, but sent it over Jandrei's goal.

At 15, Matheuzinho received on the right wing, took it to the end line, and crossed low. Talles Magno, sliding, stretched out but didn't reach the ball. At 22, Hugo received with freedom on the left wing, entered the area, and finished with his left foot. It went low, just missing the post.

At 23 minutes, Memphis made the play on the right wing, lifted the ball for Kayke's arrival. The Corinthians forward received alone in the area, tried to finish first-time, but kicked it straight out.

At 29, in a play by Marcelo Hermes on the left wing, he rolled it for Caíque, who first-timed it straight out. At 30 minutes, Gabriel Taliari received a cross at the edge of the area, rose higher than the defense, and headed over Corinthians' goal.

At 31 minutes, Corinthians sprinted to the attacking field, Matheuzinho managed to beat the defense and attempted a shot, making Jandrei palm it away. On the rebound, Memphis dribbled the defense and shot, but the ball was deflected for a corner.

At 34, after a scramble at the edge of the area, Matheus Babi received, adjusted his body, and shot with his right foot. The ball went straight to the end line but passed dangerously close to Kauê's goal.

Juventude's goal: At 42, Marcelo Hermes found Negueba alone in Corinthians' area. He rose higher than Anglieri's defense and headed. The ball still hit the crossbar before hitting the net.

At 44 minutes, Memphis took a free-kick into the area, Félix Torres rose alone but didn't reach the ball, which went straight to the end line. At 45, Kayke shot from outside the area, the ball deflected and fell to Charles, who hit the crossbar. On the rebound, Matheuzinho shot with his right foot, but the ball passed just missing the post, straight to the end line.

At 48, in the last play, Memphis got the ball on the left wing, swayed his body, and crossed. Charles headed, the ball fell to Raniele, who, facing the goal, shot straight out.

There was no time for more, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
