Corinthians lose four in a row in Brasileirão for first time since 2007 | OneFootball

Corinthians have slipped to a fourth successive Brasileirão defeat, their first such run since 2007, the season they were relegated.

The Timão were beaten by Cruzeiro, Coritiba, Santos and, on Sunday, bottom club Chapecoense. Three of those matches were at the Neo Química Arena in São Paulo, each with crowds above 37,000 backing Fernando Diniz’s side.

In 2007, the four-game slide came between rounds 25 and 28 against Paraná, Botafogo, Palmeiras and Sport. From there, only two wins arrived in the final 10 fixtures and the drop to Série B followed.

This time the context is different. While stumbling in the league, Corinthians are preparing for the Conmebol Libertadores quarter-finals. They visit Estudiantes in Argentina on Wednesday at 21:30 for the first leg.

In Série A, the club sit 11th on 32 points, seven clear of Vasco, who occupy the highest relegation place.
