Corinthians host Santos at Canindé at 16:00 on Sunday in the 15th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro Feminino, aiming to keep top spot and end a run of derby defeats.
According to Meu Timao, the occasion arrives with Emily Lima's side seeking to reset in derbies this season. They lost 1-0 to Ferroviária on 20 July in the Copa do Brasil last 16 at Fonte Luminosa, then 1-0 to Palmeiras nine days later in the Campeonato Paulista at Arena Barueri.
Against Santos, the Brabas are also trying to avoid their longest negative streak in rivalries since women's football was reactivated in 2016. Across 139 matches against Ferroviária, Santos, São Paulo and Palmeiras, they have never suffered three consecutive defeats to those opponents.
The previous worst sequences of two straight derby losses have happened twice. In July 2017, against Santos in the Campeonato Brasileiro final, Corinthians lost both legs, 3-0 on aggregate. Between June and August 2022, they were beaten 2-0 away to Palmeiras in the league, then 2-1 by Ferroviária in the Paulista at Nogueirão.
League form is strong, with three consecutive wins, 4-1 over Mixto and 4-0 over Vitória at Canindé, then 1-0 against Flamengo last Monday at Estádio Luso-Brasileiro.
Corinthians lead the table on 34 points, two clear of Palmeiras and São Paulo, who still play Red Bull Bragantino in this round. They have already sealed a quarter-final place and a top-four finish, ensuring home advantage in the first knockout tie.
