Corinthians register Zakaria Labyad contract extension until end of 2027 | OneFootball

According to Meu Timao, Corinthians have registered a new deal for Zakaria Labyad, extending the 33-year-old’s contract until the end of 2027 via the CBF’s BID.

Labyad tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and damaged the meniscus during the goalless draw with Athletico-PR at Neo Química Arena in the Campeonato Brasileiro. He has undergone surgery and is in rehabilitation.

Brazilian labour law guarantees job stability for athletes injured at work, keeping contracts and salaries active until medical clearance. Corinthians could have extended only for the recovery period, yet chose to add an extra season.

Before the injury, his continuation depended on performance clauses. The deal provided for an automatic renewal through December 2027 if he hit undisclosed sporting targets.

Signed in February, the Dutch-born, naturalised Moroccan had hit his best spell since arriving at Parque São Jorge. He featured in 18 matches, started three, and contributed to four goals, with two scored and two assists.

With Zakaria sidelined, Fernando Diniz lacks a like-for-like deputy for Rodrigo Garro, the squad’s only attacking midfielder. He has at times pushed Breno Bidon higher up. His return is forecast for February 2027.
