Corinthians right-back ranks in team's top three this season

On the night of last Wednesday, October 15, Corinthians faced Santos at Vila Belmiro, in the Alvinegro derby valid for the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship, and was defeated by a score of 3-1. The result kept the club from Parque São Jorge in 12th place with 33 points (eight wins, nine draws, and 11 losses – 30 goals scored and 35 conceded).

The only goal for Corinthians in the match, scored by midfielder Raniele with a header, came from an assist by Matheuzinho after a corner kick – halfway through the second half on the right side. With this pass, the number 2 reached his fifth assist of the season and became the team's third-highest assist provider of the year.

Matheuzinho surpassed left-back Matheus Bidu and forward Talles Magno, both with four assists. In terms of assists among the Corinthians squad this year, the right-back is behind only forward Memphis Depay and midfielder Rodrigo Garro, with ten and six, respectively.

Signed at the start of 2024 from Flamengo, right-back Matheuzinho has played 98 matches in the Corinthians shirt (74 as a starter), with 42 wins, 27 draws, and 29 losses – just over 52% success rate. In total, he has five goals and seven assists, as well as one title won: the 2025 Paulista Championship, against Palmeiras in the final.

The number 2 became the undisputed starter in the position at Corinthians from the second half of last year, after the arrival of Ramón Díaz. As a result, he put Fagner on the bench, who, at the beginning of this year, was loaned to Cruzeiro and still has a contract with the Alvinegro until December 2026.

With Matheuzinho as a starter, Corinthians will return to the field next Saturday, October 18, at 6:30 pm (Brasília time), to face Atlético-MG at Neo Química Arena, in a match valid for the 29th round of the Brazilian Championship.
