Central da Toca and Samuca TV report that Cruzeiro are trying to sign left-back Matías Viña on deadline day. He is contracted to Flamengo and currently on loan at River Plate. The transfer window closes this Friday, 11th.

Any move is complicated, as Viña’s loan with River runs until the end of the season. Cruzeiro would need to address terms between the Argentine club and Flamengo before attempting to complete a deal.

Viña joined River at the start of 2026 and has made 14 appearances, starting 10. He has also represented Uruguay at a World Cup, playing once from the start.

Flamengo signed him in 2024 from Roma for €8 million. He had previously been on loan at Sassuolo.

Injuries curtailed his time in Rio, and he struggled to secure a consistent run in the side.

Before that, he impressed at Palmeiras, winning the Campeonato Paulista, Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores in 2020 and 2021.

Cruzeiro’s search for a left-back has intensified after recent exits. Gabriel Rojas is the only specialist available to coach Artur Jorge, with Villalba, a centre-back by trade, filling in on the left.

In the mid-year window, Kaiki was sold to Como in Italy, and Kauã Prates joined Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
