Crystal Palace reach €39m agreement with OL for Malick Fofana | OneFootball

Crystal Palace have agreed a package worth about €39m including bonuses with OL for Malick Fofana. The Belgian is in London, having initially travelled to England to sign for Sunderland.

According to L'Équipe, Lyon had already settled on a fee of roughly €35m with Sunderland before Palace stepped in to redirect the 21-year-old’s move.

Needing to bolster their attack, Palace had tracked Fofana for weeks without making a move. They acted on Tuesday, and a late-morning phone call between Pierre Sage and the player proved decisive. The Eagles’ coach knew Fofana at OL and the pair share strong mutual respect.

Fofana has been convinced to choose London rather than Sunderland, with the chance to play in the Europa League part of the appeal.

An agreement on the fee is in place, though some details still need ironing out. Sunderland remain in the race, Arsenal are not out either, and late twists are possible before 20:00. Even so, OL are moving closer to the outcome it wanted for their player.
