Damià Vidagany has been honoured in his hometown Lliria. As reported by AS, the Aston Villa Director of Football Operations will place the city’s medal alongside the Europa League winner’s medal Villa earned last season, recognition for years of promoting Lliria.

Lliria is famed for its bands and love of basketball, and lately for the embraces one of its sons has shared with Prince William of England.

Vidagany received the award from mayor Paco Gorrea. He was joined by family, lifelong friends and Unai Emery. The pair first met in 2008 and later worked together at Valencia CF, with Braulio Vázquez also attending the ceremony.

Emery, from Hondarribia, did not miss a personal moment for the man regarded as his closest and most trusted executive at Villa.

The honour recognises the career of one of Lliria’s notable residents. Vidagany trained as a journalist, though he had dreamed of playing professional basketball for Club Bàsquet Lliria. Early roles at Superdeporte, Ràdio 9, SER and Diario AS saw him cover local sport.

Football became his profession. He served as Valencia CF’s communications and marketing lead, then worked at DV7 Management, before joining Aston Villa as Director of Football Operations.
