Deivid Washington has joined Strasbourg in a permanent move from Chelsea, seeking a reset after months off the international radar. According to Diario Do Peixe, the Ligue 1 side announced the Brazilian on Tuesday.

A Santos academy graduate, he reached the seniors then left for England after only a handful of outings. With minutes scarce, he returned to Santos on loan last season but could not repeat his early impact.

Back at Chelsea, a sustained run still eluded him. Strasbourg offered about eight million euros for a permanent deal, which was accepted, and Santos will receive a share via the solidarity mechanism. He also recently became a father.

In 2023 he won the South American Under-20 title with Brazil and was called for age-group friendlies in Egypt. Youth call-ups have been frequent.

Born in June 2005 in Itumbiara, Goiás, he joined Grêmio at eight and moved to Santos at 11. Recommended by Marcos Assunção, he impressed in 2021 and, under Gabriel Bussinger, switched from winger to centre-forward.

That form secured his first professional deal in August with a clause around R$ 100 million, and a place on The Guardian’s 2005 talents list. He debuted for Santos in 2023, playing 16 games and scoring two.

Chelsea signed him in August 2023 for 15 million euros plus five million in add-ons linked to targets. Santos held 70% of his rights, and Monaco matched the bid, but he chose English football.
