Deportivo are pushing to add José María Giménez before the deadline, with the Atlético Madrid centre-back not training with the group this morning as he awaits an exit. The Galicians are negotiating with the player and Atlético to bring leadership to their LaLiga defence.
The offer is firm and Deportivo are seeking to free salary margin by accelerating departures. AS understands that Atlético will extend Giménez’s contract by one year and assume part of his wages to facilitate a loan to Riazor.
Sevilla and Valencia had Giménez on their lists for deadline day but, mainly for economic reasons, have stepped away. Deportivo, with stable finances, have worked on a salary-sharing formula acceptable to Atlético. The move envisaged is a loan.
Giménez’s departure would allow Atlético to reinforce out wide, with Tagliafico initially in mind. After Patiño’s exit, Deportivo already have a vacant squad slot. Sporting director Fernando Soriano is working to end José Ángel’s contract, and exits are also being explored for academy defender Dani Barcia and goalkeeper Eric Puerto.
Adama Traoré has now been registered in LaLiga. He arrived last week and trained under Antonio Hidalgo, but was not ready to face Valencia and was left out. His shirt number is yet to be confirmed, with 17 available and, after Patiño’s departure, 6 also free, while potential moves for José Ángel and Barcia would open 20 and 5.
