Deportivo are set to cap a frantic finish to the window by landing centre-back José María Giménez from Atlético Madrid, with an agreement reached and only official confirmation outstanding.
According to AS, Atlético will extend his contract by one year and cover part of his wages to facilitate a loan to Riazor. The Uruguay defender did not train with the first-team group this morning while awaiting his exit.
Sevilla and Valencia were also in the frame on deadline day, but stepped away mainly for financial reasons. With a healthy balance sheet, Depor devised a salary split that satisfied Atlético, and Giménez is lined up to join on loan.
His departure would allow Atlético to move for a wide player, with Tagliafico the initial option. Depor already have a free squad slot after Patiño’s exit.
The Galician club are also working late departures. Sporting director Fernando Soriano is seeking to conclude José Ángel’s contract, while a loan for academy defender Dani Barcia and an exit for fourth-choice goalkeeper Eric Puerto are being explored.
Adama Traoré has now been registered with LaLiga. He arrived in Galicia last week and trained under Antonio Hidalgo, but was not ready to face Valencia and missed the squad. His shirt number is yet to be confirmed, with 17 free and six newly vacant after Patiño’s departure, while the likely exits of José Ángel and Barcia would free 20 and five.
