Gonzalo Plata will return to Flamengo after Dínamo Moscou abandoned his transfer following medical checks. The Ecuador forward had been sold last week.

Flamengo said in a statement that Dínamo Moscou told them he did not meet the club’s medical parameters, so the deal will not be completed. Plata will rejoin the squad in Rio this week.

He travelled on Saturday after a fee of about €10 million, R$ 60.1 million, was agreed. He will now be reintegrated into the first-team group.

He suffered right knee tendinitis on 22 July against Chapecoense, missed draws with São Paulo and Inter, then played five times in August.

Flamengo had not planned to sell a regular under Leonardo Jardim, but his camp pushed for improved terms after the World Cup or a move, and he prioritised Europe despite interest from Mexico.

Flamengo have signed fellow Ecuador right winger Anthony Valencia from Royal Antwerp. Both were in Ecuador’s World Cup squad this year, Plata started and Valencia did not play.

If no new transfer emerges, both will be in Flamengo’s squad, and the window closes on 11 as the club also signed Argentine forward Freitas from River Plate to back up Pedro.

Plata joined in the second half of 2024 from Al-Sadd for US$ 9.1 million. He has 100 appearances, nine goals, 13 assists, and six trophies including Copa do Brasil 2024 and Libertadores 2025.
