Flamengo and Botafogo said they are considering action against Dínamo de Moscou after their forwards Gonzalo Plata and Matheus Martins failed medicals at the Russian club.

Flamengo consider Plata fit for elite football, noting he had been playing for the club and the Ecuador national team, and that he has no history of surgeries, fractures or serious chronic issues. The club also questioned the criteria used by Dínamo de Moscou in the assessment.

In a statement, the Rio side expressed surprise and scepticism at the outcome, said they would pursue reparations for disregard and devaluation, and described the conclusion of talks on Tuesday as amateur and irresponsible, adding that the episode should serve as a warning to Brazilian football.

With the move off, Flamengo do not plan to part with Plata now. He will be reintegrated and available to Leonardo Jardim in the 2026 season. The Ecuadorian has already won CONMEBOL Libertadores, Copa do Brasil, Brasileirão, Supercopa Rei and Cariocão with the club.

Botafogo faced a similar scenario with Matheus Martins. The club consider the forward fit to play and are preparing appropriate steps against the Russian side, including a potential claim of improper use of the player in Russia.

The collapsed deals carried significant sums. Dínamo de Moscou were set to pay about R$ 72 million for Plata, while Botafogo expected more than R$ 42 million.
