Southampton are close to confirming their fifth summer signing, with Divin Mubama set for a season-long loan from Manchester City. Sky Sports News reports that an agreement is in place for the 21-year-old forward to move to St Mary's.

Southampton have had success recruiting from City before, including Romeo Lavia. Shea Charles also came through there and is preparing a £30m move to Fulham.

Mubama's loan is viewed as virtually done, and he showed flashes on loan at Stoke City last season. He scored five goals, a return that has left some fans unconvinced, although Cyle Larin overcame similar doubts to make an instant impact.

The London-born striker has 86 career goals across youth and senior levels, but only seven have come in the first team. Eckert is seen as adept at improving youngsters, as shown by Cameron Bragg's progress last season.

Mubama previously featured for West Ham before switching to the Etihad. He could get an early chance, with Southampton beating Colchester United 2-0 in the EFL Cup first round and a home tie with West Ham to follow in the week commencing 24 August.

Facing his former club would be notable after 63 goals in 97 youth games for the Hammers and only one at senior level. Injury disrupted his Stoke spell, so the South Coast could offer a timely reset as the Championship gets under way.
