Southampton have confirmed the season-long loan signing of Manchester City striker Divin Mubama.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Championship rivals Stoke City, scoring five. He is also an England under-21 international.

Mubama expressed full belief in himself, noting the team’s quality will create chances and that it is on him to finish. Fresh from a scoring pre-season, he feels sharp and eager to start.

Group sporting director Johannes Spors called him an extremely talented striker with Championship experience, highlighting his work ethic and hunger to help the team. He noted the club acted quickly once Mubama became available, and believes those qualities will be vital this season.

Mubama joined City in 2024 from West Ham United, where he had developed since the age of eight. He scored his first senior goal for the Hammers in the Europa Conference League in 2023 and helped the under-18s win the FA Youth Cup.

He was part of Enzo Maresca’s pre-season tour of Asia, registering two goals and an assist, and he marked his first-team debut with a goal against Salford in the FA Cup.

Signing a striker had been a priority for Saints after talks over a new contract for Ross Stewart broke down. The Scot has since joined Swansea City. Southampton begin their Championship season at Watford on Sunday at 1.30pm, and Mubama could make his St Mary's bow against former loan club Stoke on 22 August.
