Domingo Catoira emerges as Braulio Vázquez’s preferred choice for Valencia’s technical department | OneFootball

Braulio Vázquez is reshaping Valencia CF’s sporting structure after taking charge, with Domingo Catoira emerging as his favoured pick to rebuild a depleted technical department. According to Superdeporte, the unit was thinned by the dismissal of Ron Gourlay and his staff.

Alfaro and Ruz are also under consideration to become his new right-hand, mirroring the trusted Cata role Braulio had at Osasuna.

Catoira, 54, fits the profile Braulio values, but prising him out will be difficult. Since the summer he has been at River Plate, recruited by Pablo Longoria to lead scouting and talent recruitment.

He is no stranger in Paterna after two spells at Valencia CF. The first began in 2010 alongside Braulio and lasted about three and a half years before he followed him to Real Valladolid.

In Valladolid he served as technical secretary and Braulio’s right-hand between 2014 and 2017, with the club labelling him second-in-command. Their working relationship is long-standing.

Catoira returned to Mestalla in 2017, later overlapping with Longoria, then moved to Espanyol as technical secretary and later sporting director before rejoining Valladolid in 2023 as sporting lead. His market-focused, scouting-first approach aligns with Braulio’s methods, though any move would be complicated by his short stint and active contract there, and may also depend on Longoria’s future.
