“Don’t be surprised” – Man Utd receive delightful news in their pursuit of ‘tremendous’ EPL star

Manchester United have been told that they may not have to spend £100 million to buy Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest after all.

The Premier League giants are planning to ring the changes in the middle of the park next summer. With Casemiro running on an expiring contract, and Ruben Amorim not entirely convinced with Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte, one new signing might not be sufficient to address MUFC’s midfield issues.

Therefore, INEOS are simultaneously tracking several profiles, but many believe that Anderson is at the top of the pile, especially following his impressive display against Amorim’s side in last weekend’s 2-2 draw at the City Ground.

In recent weeks, it has been claimed that Forest will request £100 million to part ways with Anderson. Nevertheless, football journalist Ben Jacobs insists that the price will ‘significantly drop’ between now and the summer.

During his appearance on The United Stand, the transfer market insider offers several precedents that saw players moving for considerably lower values compared to the original price, including Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister.

Jacobs also believes that Forest’s ongoing struggles could take their toll on the player’s price, while the club’s ‘unthinkable’ relegation would downgrade his value even further.

This would be a major boost for Man Utd, who are keen to sign the England international, who has been hailed for the ‘tremendous’ job he’s been accomplishing at Forest.

Who should Man Utd sign in addition to Anderson?

Jacobs also adds that United will most probably target two new signings in midfield in 2026. But while the club will almost certainly pursue Anderson next summer, it remains to be seen which other profile they’ll be targeting.

Since the Forest star is considered a natural No.8, they could decide to pair him with a midfield enforcer like Carlos Baleba, albeit the Brighton star won’t come cheap.

On the other hand, some might argue that Anderson and Adam Wharton would complement one another, combining the former’s drive with the latter’s flair.

In any case, these decisions will also hinge on the fates of Man Utd’s current midfield crop, including club captain Bruno Fernandes, as it remains to be seen if he’ll be confirmed in a midfield role in the long run.
