Douglas Aurélio has reported back to CD Castellón in imposing shape after two injury-hit seasons. His early pre-season condition has revived hopes of a return to form.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he looks stronger, more muscular and appears recovered from his left-knee problems. The coming weeks will be decisive for winning a place in Pablo Hernández's plans and clarifying his future.

Castellón began their 2026/2027 build-up on 8 July with medicals, then training started on Monday 13 July.

This follows an anterior cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee in February 2025, then a meniscal issue in the same joint, costing him over 50 matches.

Early signs are encouraging after a hard summer's work, but he must show the knee tolerates the load, maintain continuity and regain explosiveness.

He is in the final year of a deal to 30 June 2027, adding weight to this season. Castellón must choose to persist, renew or consider an exit before he can leave free.

His pace, power, ability to play on either flank and movement into space make him attractive. He was important in Castellón's promotion to professional football.

Promotion-chasing Primera Federación sides are monitoring him, aware a fully fit Aurélio could be decisive.

After two gruelling years, he wants to feel like a footballer again. This pre-season could spark a revival at Castalia or open a new move.
