Eberl Set to Sign New Bayern Contract—But There’s Still a Catch | OneFootball

The signs point clearly toward Max Eberl and FC Bayern continuing their partnership. The sporting director is expected to receive a new contract with the German record champions. However, a quick signing is not yet guaranteed. First, both sides must agree on the specific terms.

Recently, indications have grown stronger that FC Bayern is planning for the long term with Max Eberl. The 52-year-old’s contract runs through the summer of 2027, but club officials want to clarify the situation early on.

According to information from Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, this does not apply only to Eberl. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, whose contract runs through 2027, is also set to receive a new contract.

“Max Eberl and Jan-Christian Dreesen, whose contracts run through 2027. The contract extensions are planned and will be approved—at the latest on August 25 at the next supervisory board meeting,” Plettenberg emphasizes.

This means that an important decision could be made as early as the next meeting of Bayern’s supervisory board on August 25.

Bayern intends to continue with Eberl

The club appears to have already made the fundamental decision. Bayern’s leadership wants to continue with both Eberl and Dreesen.

This is an important signal, especially for Eberl. Just a few months ago, his work at Säbener Straße was viewed quite critically. In particular, his transfer policy and communication within the leadership team were repeatedly the subject of debate.

In the meantime, the mood has apparently changed significantly. Eberl completed two important transfers—Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown—early on, ensuring that Vincent Kompany had key reinforcements available as early as the preseason.

Most recently, it was also reported that Eberl has intensified his dialogue with Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. His collaboration with Dreesen is also said to have improved.

All of this suggests that club officials continue to have confidence in the sporting director.

Despite this clear trend, however, Plettenberg warns against treating the contract extension as a done deal just yet.

After all, even if FC Bayern wants to continue the partnership, the specific contract details will still need to be negotiated with Eberl. “But while Bayern might say, ‘Look, we want to extend both contracts,’ an agreement still needs to be reached first,” said the Bayern insider.

Plettenberg therefore does not necessarily expect a quick resolution: “Well, I don’t think this will happen in a flash; Eberl will also make one or two demands.”

Plettenberg left open what demands the 52-year-old might make. In addition to financial terms, factors such as contract length, areas of responsibility, and the overall direction of the club’s sports management could also play a role for a sporting director.

However, there do not appear to be any fundamental doubts at this time about continuing the collaboration. “The very clear trend is that things will continue with both of them, including Max Eberl,” Plettenberg clarifies.
