Edouard Mendy’s starting place against Belgium is in doubt after he left camp for checks on a left knee problem.
According to L'Équipe, the Senegal goalkeeper returned to his club Al-Ahli in Jeddah after the third group game to undergo further assessments on the knee he hurt against Norway. Senegal beat Iraq 5-0 in that match.
The visit appears to point negatively towards his involvement in the next game. After a long journey and a disrupted build-up, it is not certain he will start in the World Cup last 32 against Belgium, scheduled for Wednesday at 22:00 in Seattle.
There are legitimate doubts over the rest of his tournament.
Whatever the decision on his participation, he is expected to rejoin the Lions squad before the match.
