Jamie Vardy has taken to Twitter to praise Leicester City’s fans for the support that they illustrated during last night’s League Cup clash with Milton Keynes.
6,559 Leicester fans made the trip to Stadium MK as their side comfortably sealed a place in the quarter-finals of the competition by outclassing their League One opponents.
Youri Tielemans opened the scoring for the Foxes in the first-half as he slotted home after Vardy’s backheel was denied by MK Dons goalkeeper Jamie Cumming.
Ayoze Perez then scored his first goal of the season in the 29th minute of this clash.
Following the break, Vardy added a third for Leicester as he headed home from Timothy Castagne’s cross.
The Foxes will find out who they are set to play in the next round of the competition tomorrow.
Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that his side will be able to back up this display by producing a positive performance in the Premier League on Boxing Day in their showdown with Newcastle United.
Following the club’s triumph over MK Dons, Vardy opted to share a message with the club’s fans on Twitter.
The forward posted: “Back in business!
“Great to be back at it tonight.
“Class away support, thank you @LCFC.”
The Verdict
Leicester now have a good opportunity to reach the latter stages of this particular competition after sealing a 3-0 win over MK Dons last night.
With his side set to take on Newcastle next week, it will be interesting to see whether Vardy will be given the nod to start in this particular fixture.
Due to the presence of Patson Daka, the 35-year-old has been forced to settle for a place on the substitutes bench for the club’s two most recent league clashes.
Having now provided a total of eight direct goal contributions in all competitions this season, Vardy could potentially help Leicester claim victory in their showdown with the Magpies if he is firing on all cylinders on Boxing Day.
Currently 13th in the Premier League standings, the Foxes will be keen to push on at this level with Vardy in their side over the course of the coming weeks.
