Eintracht Frankfurt end Arnaud Kalimuendo chase as Niels Nkounkou joins Nice on loan | OneFootball

Eintracht Frankfurt have shelved a return for Arnaud Kalimuendo and, in parallel, have sent Niels Nkounkou to OGC Nice on loan.

Talks over the Nottingham Forest striker were revived late on deadline day but no agreement followed. Kicker reports that Eintracht prioritised outgoings in the final hours. The 24-year-old stays with Forest.

Jean-Mattéo Bahoya is set to join Leeds United on loan with a mandatory €30m clause, adding further income. That money will not be used on Kalimuendo. Nottingham were seeking more than €30m, a fee that would have been a club record.

There were fresh suggestions a late arrangement might still be possible, yet Eintracht concentrated on trimming the squad. There has been no further word on a possible free-agent move for Joselu.

Nkounkou heads to Nice on loan until the end of 2026/27, and the Ligue 1 club hold a purchase option. He remains under contract in Frankfurt until June 2028.

Signed for about €7.5m from Saint-Étienne in 2023, the left-back impressed early but slipped behind Nathaniel Brown, then later joined Torino on a season-long loan before returning this summer. Despite Brown’s €50m move to Bayern Munich, Nkounkou did not make the squad for either of Eintracht’s competitive fixtures so far.

Nice offers him a reset in familiar surroundings, and their option to buy could end his Eintracht chapter next summer, one year before his deal is due to expire.
