El Chadaille Bitshiabu’s proposed loan move from RB Leipzig to RC Lens has reportedly collapsed after the two clubs failed to agree the final conditions of the transfer. Leipzig and Lens had been negotiating a season-long loan for the 21-year-old centre-back without a purchase option. Discussions had also included an agreement concerning the division of Bitshiabu’s salary, but Philipp Hinze reports the clubs ultimately failed to settle the remaining details.
The development represents a significant turnaround after negotiations appeared to be at an advanced stage only days ago. Get German Football News previously reported that Leipzig intended to send Bitshiabu to Lens on a developmental loan, with RB continuing to plan around the French defender beyond the coming season. His departure nevertheless appeared increasingly likely heading into the final days of the transfer window. GGFN noted in our latest overview of Leipzig’s remaining transfer business that negotiations with Lens remained unresolved while sporting executive Marcel Schäfer attempted to reduce the size of Martin Demichelis’ squad.
Bitshiabu was omitted from Leipzig’s squad for Saturday’s 3-0 Bundesliga victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, further underlining the uncertainty surrounding his immediate role. The former Paris Saint-Germain defender’s future is therefore once again open heading into the final stages of the summer window. Leipzig could still attempt to find another temporary destination before the deadline, though Bitshiabu will remain with RB if no alternative solution emerges.
