Elvedi stars as Switzerland keep North Macedonia at bay | OneFootball

Nico Elvedi played the full 90 minutes as Switzerland began their Nations League campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over North Macedonia in Skopje.

The Leeds United defender, earning his 74th cap for his country, started at centre-back for the Rossocrociati and helped his side keep a clean sheet as they made a winning start to their campaign.

Composed in possession throughout, the Zurich-born Leeds man racked up 83 touches and completed 66 passes.

Elvedi also made seven defensive contributions, including five clearances, four recoveries, one tackle and one interception, while winning three duels.

He was also involved in Switzerland's attacking build-up, creating two chances during an assured individual display.

Switzerland took the lead when Remo Freuler opened the scoring, before Zeki Amdouni doubled their advantage.

Amdouni then added his second of the evening to complete the scoring and secure all three points for Murat Yakin's side.

Switzerland will now prepare for their second fixture of the international window, with Elvedi and his teammates facing Scotland on Tuesday 29 September (7:45pm BST).
