Enzo Pérez, the former Benfica midfielder with 117 appearances and a two-time champion at the club, has lauded Claudio Echeverri’s technique and maturity, stressing his composure.
"He is very strong one-v-one and, when opponents close off space, he takes that imbalance into the opposition box. He is very good in tight areas," said Pérez, speaking to Record in an exclusive interview.
"He has the personality to take responsibility for the team, he does not get nervous, he is bold when it is time to play. He said he has already played two Superclásicos at 17, so he is ready for any type of game."
Marco Silva is preparing to ease Echeverri into Benfica’s starting XI, viewing the Argentine chiefly as a No 10. The recent pause in competition is being used to speed his integration into the team’s patterns.
After his league debut against Gil Vicente, when he came on and set up Prestianni, he left a positive impression on the staff. Marco Silva felt he entered during a difficult spell, played with calm, kept demanding the ball and took responsibility and risks, noting Benfica needed a creative player arriving in the box. He added that, despite limited minutes, he liked what he saw.
