“I feel like I’ve moved on mentally and physically now and I’m just looking forwards,” said Sunderland youngster Ethan Moore as he continues his comeback on loan at Gateshead.
According to Sunderland Echo, the 21-year-old forward joined National League side Gateshead on loan in January in search of regular minutes.
He suffered a serious knee injury in March 2023 and, after 887 days out, returned for Sunderland’s Under-21s in August, replacing Felix Scott in a 3-2 defeat at Southampton.
He made 17 appearances in the first half of the season before moving to the Heed, where he has featured seven times, most recently off the bench in Tuesday’s 3-1 home win over title contenders York City.
“I am definitely moving towards where I want to be. The thing with a big injury is it’s more mental than physical when you are coming back.”
“You have doubts. I know my knee is strong now, it is better and I am getting stronger with every minute that I play.”
Moore is into the final weeks of his Sunderland contract. “I just want to play as many minutes as I can and show everyone what I can do.”
Gateshead were 11 points from safety six weeks ago, but two defeats in 11 have lifted them out of the drop zone before Saturday’s Non-League Day visit of fellow strugglers Yeovil Town.
“If you come down you’ll see good quality. We need that support here because we still have a lot of work to do so it would be great to see supporters getting down here on Saturday and getting behind us.”
