Ethan Nwaneri joins Borussia Dortmund on loan with recall option | OneFootball

Ethan Nwaneri has completed a season-long loan move from Arsenal to Borussia Dortmund, with the 19-year-old leaving north London in search of regular senior football.

The England Under-21 international will spend the campaign in Germany, with Dortmund covering his salary in full under the terms of the agreement.

The move follows Dortmund’s search for reinforcements after Giannis Konstantelias suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Mikel Arteta had acknowledged in August that Nwaneri needed match minutes while also making clear that he wanted the player to stay at Arsenal in the long-term.

He is under contract with Arsenal until 2030. There are no options included in the deal and it is believed that Arsenal have a January recall option for him.

Lars Ricken, BVB’s Managing Director of Sports, said: “By signing Ethan on loan, we’ve succeeded in bringing in a very talented and technically gifted midfielder. Given Giannis Konstantelias’s extended absence, it was important for us to be able to strengthen our roster at short notice.

“For us, signing Ethan was the best possible solution from a sporting perspective. We’re pleased that we were able to finalize this deal just before the transfer window closed.”
