Everton midfielder Charly Alcaraz ‘may consider a move’ away from the Toffees this summer and ‘last week’ Argentine giants River Plate had contact with his representatives.

The Argentine returned to England in January last year, joining the Toffees on loan with an option to buy.

His performances proved impressive enough to convince Everton to retain his services on a permanent basis, while the midfielder himself was also keen to stay at the Hill Dickinson, leading to a two-year contract being agreed.

The 23-year-old endured an injury-disrupted campaign recent season and saw his game time restricted, making just six starts in 20 Premier League appearances.

With his contract now entering its final year, speculation has begun to emerge regarding what the future could hold for him.

According to Argentine outlet BolaVIP, River Plate have ‘enquired about the conditions’ for Alcaraz and spoke to his representatives ‘last week’.

The Argentine is emerging as an alternative to Thiago Almada for the attacking midfield role, with River Plate prepared to step up their interest should that pursuit fail to materialise.

Alcaraz ‘may consider a move’ from Everton this summer as he seeks to secure a prominent role, which he wants and has not yet materialised on Merseyside.

River Plate have been keen to find out whether Everton would consider loaning Alcaraz out and, if not, then whether a permanent deal could be done.

Alcaraz came through the ranks at Racing Club before earning a move to Southampton, and a deal would see him return to his homeland after three years away.

Should the Merseyside outfit decide to part ways with the Argentine, they could look towards Gabriel Sara as a replacement, with he having ‘not completely closed the door’ on a move involving the Toffees and Aston Villa.

David Moyes’ side are also monitoring alternative midfield profiles, including Jordan James, though they face significant competition for his signature and he is currently ‘waiting on the nod to speak’ with potential suitors.
