Joaquín Freitas, the 19-year-old Argentine striker, will be unveiled by Flamengo on Friday at Ninho do Urubu. Already registered, he could debut on Sunday against Remo at the Mangueirão in round 26 of the Brasileirão.
ge reports that Rodrigo Sbroglia first spotted Freitas at Acassuso and took him to River Plate, where he debuted for the first team under Martín Demichelis. Sbroglia previously worked as Marcelo Gallardo’s assistant at River from 2014 to 2019.
Inside Flamengo, his style has been likened to Lautaro Martínez. Sbroglia instead sees echoes of Julián Álvarez, highlighting his burst and relentless pursuit of goal.
The player pushed to leave River in search of minutes in his natural position. He joins as the immediate understudy to Pedro.
River had not planned to sell, but Freitas prioritised a move to Flamengo. He had also been used out of position in Argentina. A first appearance at the Maracanã could follow against Corinthians.
