Fofana, 31 and also a French national, earned 35 caps and scored seven goals, and won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2023.

He expressed pride and gratitude at representing his country, described the continental triumph as a childhood dream realised, thanked team-mates and staff, and called himself the Elephants' first supporter while backing the new generation.

The announcement comes only days before the international window.
