Fenerbahçe have expressed interest in Grêmio attacking midfielder Gabriel Mec, 18, in the final stretch of the window, although no official offer has been made. According to Globo.com, the Türkiye club have sounded out the teenager but are yet to table a bid.
Other sides have asked for information on Mec, most of them not publicly identified to avoid harming talks. Earlier this year Shakhtar Donetsk submitted a €12 million bid, worth around R$ 69.5 million, which was accepted by Grêmio but turned down by the player.
Villarreal also explored a move in the first half of the year. The window runs from 20 July to 11 September, and Grêmio remain open to selling Mec.
The club are seeking funds to ease finances, mirroring June’s sale of defender Viery to Fiorentina. Their second-quarter deficit was R$ 33 million.
Mec has slipped down the pecking order in recent months. After a run of games early in the season, he was benched following the World Cup pause and now faces competition from Croatian midfielder Krovinovic, a recent arrival. He has made four appearances in 10 matches since the Brazilian calendar resumed.
Head coach Luís Castro says the decision is not linked to the market. He attributes Mec’s absence to a tactical switch to a midfield three with greater defensive bite and no central playmaker.
