Fiorentina are said to have reached an agreement with River Plate to sell half of Lucas Beltran after his loan at Valencia, but the striker wants to remain in Europe.

TyC Sports reports that the 25-year-old is resisting a return to River Plate, remaining focused on making his name in Europe.

Beltran came through River’s academy and impressed sufficiently to earn a €19.7m move to Fiorentina in the summer of 2023.

Told last season to find a new club, he chose to stay in Europe and joined Valencia on loan. He ended the campaign with three goals and two assists in 30 competitive matches.

The agreement is understood to be worth €6m, with Fiorentina to retain 50 per cent of any sell-on, effectively selling half his contract.

River Plate are still trying to convince Beltran that returning would be the best next step for his career.
