Ecuador have withdrawn Gonzalo Plata from their next international window after the Flamengo forward sustained a right thigh issue in the 2-1 win over Red Bull Bragantino.

The federation announced that a report from Flamengo’s medical department confirmed a functional muscle injury in his right thigh, and the player will remain in Rio de Janeiro to begin treatment.

Ecuador have friendlies confirmed against Japan and South Korea in Asia, with a third match against Panama or New Zealand still under review by the delegation.

Despite Plata’s absence, head coach Marcelo Gallardo has called up Anthony Valencia, Flamengo’s first signing of the last transfer window, who is preparing to join the national squad.
